Falling for Pickens County 🍁

There’s just something about fall in North Georgia.

Maybe it’s that first morning when you walk outside and realize it’s finally not 90 degrees. 😂 Maybe it’s the mountains starting to change colors, football on the weekends, or the fact that suddenly every little town around us has something going on.

Whatever it is, this is one of my favorite times of year to live in Pickens County.

 

And if you’re new to the area—or thinking about making North Georgia home—fall is honestly one of the best times to get a feel for what living here is really like.

Small-Town Fall Is Different Here

One of the things I love about Jasper and the surrounding communities is that you can still get that small-town feeling without being completely disconnected from everything.

You can spend a Saturday morning at the Jasper Farmers Market, grab a coffee downtown, wander through some of the local shops, and still be home in time for an afternoon of football.

And fall gives us even more excuses to get out and enjoy our community.

 

The Georgia Marble Festival is c

oming up October 3–4, and if you’ve never been, it’s one of those uniquely Pickens County traditions everyone should experience at least once. Between the parade, vendors, food, entertainment and the famous marble quarry tours, it really shows off a piece of the history that makes this area special.

 

Don’t Sleep on Downtown Jasper

Downtown Jasper is also becoming one of my favorite places to spend a few hours.

Grab a coffee, walk Main Street, pop into a couple of shops and just enjoy being somewhere that still feels like a town instead of another giant shopping center.

And as someone who moved back to Georgia after living away for years, I think I’ve grown to appreciate that even more.

own, supporting locally owned businesses and raising kids somewhere that still has community events and traditions.

And Yes… Fall Makes Me Want to Look at Houses 😂

Fall is also when I start imagining every house with mums on the porch, pumpkins by the front door and a fire going inside.

But beyond the cute stuff, this can actually be an interesting time to house hunt.

Spring and summer tend to get most of the atten

 

tion in real estate, but buyers looking during the fall are often doing it because they’re serious about making a move. And sellers who have their homes on the market this time of year usually aren’t just testing the waters either.

So if you’ve been casually thinking about buying, selling, getting some land, or just figuring out what your current home might be worth, you don’t necessarily have to wait until spring.

This Is Home

Pickens County isn’t perfect—and I’ll never pretend any place is—but th

ere’s a lot I genuinely love about living here.

The mountains. The slower pace. The little local businesses. The community events. The ability to find a house with some breathing room while still being able to get to Canton, Woodstock or Atlanta when you need to.

And fall just seems to bring all of those things together.

So over the next few weeks, get out and enjoy it. Visit somewhere local you’ve never tried. Walk downtown. Go to the Marble Festival. Take the kids somewhere outside.

And if one of those drives through the mountains happens to turn into, “Okay…what would it actually cost to live over here?”
